Some of the greatest voices in R&B got together in the 90’s to create one of the most uplifting pieces of R&B music. BMU (Black Men United) grace us with the voices of Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Aaron Hall, Levert, Stokely, Tevin Campbell, and so many more talented soulful voices.
Side Note: Listen to Brian McKnight at 4:25 in the video, Brian can sing!
At a time where many of us need something uplifitng, listen to “You Will Know” by BMU, I’m sure you’ll be thinking to yourself, “Now That’s Soul!”
Here’s one of those moments that make you turn your head and look twice. Personally, although Craig David is an incredibly talented singer, I never would have considered him to be one of my personal favourites. However, after hearing this acapella version of Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone”, I feel Craig David deserves to be here on Now That’s Soul.
In keeping with the Michael Jackson tributes, here’s one of the greatest songs of all time, “I’ll Be There” performed here by Mariah Carey and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men
Wanya sings like an angel in this version. The duet section at the end is extremely powerful and packed with soul. Now That’s Soul!
Stevie Wonder has clearly been deeply affected by the death of his friend Michael Jackson. Here, we see Stevie Wonder singing a special version of “I Just Called to Say I Love You” in tribute to Michael. For you Stevie fans, you all know, only he can do something this powerful. Now That’s Soul.
Beyonce is one of the few singers who truly embodies the spirit of soulful music and can inspire with her voice. Here is a short clip of her tribute to the late King of Pop. “Everywhere I’m lookin now, I’m surrounded by your embrace… Micahel I can see your Halo, You know you’re my saving grace.”
None other than one of the few “Masters of Soul” left in our time, the great Stevie Wonder finds just the right words to pay tribute to Michael Jackson and the Jackson family.
One of the best Brian McKnight songs of all time, this version of One Last Cry really shows off just how talented Brian McKnight is. Check out this live version!
With the exception of Stevie Wonder and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, no other singer today can even come close to the amount of soul Brian puts into this performance – Now That’s Soul!
If you haven’t yet heard of Ahmir, then you are going to be so happy you found this post. Ahmir is one of the hottest up and coming R&B groups of our time. Their sound can be likened to the old school harmonies of Boyz II Men, throw in a touch of Blackstreet’s soul, and a pinch of KCi and Jojo, and you’ve got yourself a sound unlike any other.
Ahmir’s beautiful arrangement and cover of this Mariah Carey song is even better than the original version in my opinion. With the arrangement incorporating One Sweet Day, you’re sure to feel this one deep down. Now That’s Soul.
Wow, this is one of the greatest vocalists and songwriters of all time. Hearing this song at this time in our lives can’t help for me but to think of Michael Jackson. Stevie sings this one absolutely beautifully, with such power and emotion… grab the tissues!
If you like this version and want to get more great live Stevie Wonder tunes, check out this album from Amazon, one of the greatest Stevie wonder collections in my opinion: Natural Wonder
Here’s one really unique live performance from Boyz II Men giving tribute to the great King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Boyz II Men style the songs Heal the World and We Are the World beautifully with their soulful harmonies that only they can perform. As a special surprise to the Boyz, Michael Jackson even makes an appearance and briefly sings with them.
Listen to that crowd go crazy for Michael, Now That’s Soul!
